Fruit and vegetables (part 1)
The man looks at his hands for quite sometime
Recently there isn’t much to do
He’s trying not to remember, trying to cut off his brains and thoughts
Trying not to stare around in his shop
Not to recognize all those familiar things
Not to see the pictures on the wall
Pictures of his children playing in an olive grove
His beloved wife in her new dress
He thrusts the upcoming memories away
Good, it’s time to close the shop
He goes outside on the pavement to take down the displays
A man in a grey coat nearly runs him down
It has started to rain
He realizes the young woman is late today
The one who always looks so sad
The one who he’s not able to small talk to
She just comes in, buys two oranges and hurries away
He can’t betray himself – the memories come
His beloved wife, dead for five years
She never complained about his mad ideas
She was a gifted cook, he misses her still
His beloved children, living their own life
Far from him, in other cities
Far from everything he’s believing in
They call him up now and then
He realizes the young woman didn’t come today
The one who always looks so sad
The one who he’s not able to small talk to
She just comes in, buys two oranges and hurries away.
He puts out the lights of the shop
He goes upstairs in his flat and turns the TV on
He drinks a cup of strong mocca – alone with his thoughts
Waiting for the night to come.
