Reviews:
This album tells the story of a deep relationship. It speaks of a love that is warm, good and happy, and of lovers who feel they can stand together against the whole frightening world. We meet our hero in the first song: “Home”. He is a young man fighting his way out of the narrowness of his background. He is afraid he may not be good enough for the woman of his heart and never even gives her a chance to know his feelings. He longs to be near her, but apparently never even dares speak to her. He decides simply to watch her and allows the chance of a friendship or relationship to pass him by.
This is the prologue- We meet him again years later, in a relationship with another woman. He has grown up, he has had other relationships and loves, but now in the second song, he is confronted with all the old fears: His fear of love, his fear of life, his inability perceive his own feelings. He is unable to talk about his fears even to his lover. All wishes remain unspoken. His reflections on the problems they are having are very lucid, but do not lead to any way of coping or even a possible solution. They seem like two people on the beach, trying to hold onto the sand running through their fingers…The fear grows- something does not feel right, something is going wrong- and our hero’s reaction is to flee from the present situation and turn toward the past. He sees what they had together, he can still feel love. But his greatest fear has finally come true: his beloved is leaving him.
The lyrics give a painfully honest and precise description of what it feels like to fear the loss of someone you love and then have that fear become reality at the end of the story. Although there is a tiny hope for the future in the very last song. the title of the album must be seen as ironic and even sarcastic: This is not “just”and not at all “another love song”. (C.B.)
